Protection available for Whistle blower

I read in the papers recently that the Indian law for the protection of whistleblowers is inadequate as it does not protect the identity of the whistleblower in certain circumstances. Do other countries namely Usa and Uk have similar provisions or do theu guarantee a more protective regime
